Punderwhelming social marketing of the week
Wiener dog, wiener bun, wiener as penis. This ad for the AIDS Healthcare Foundation (found, of all places, on naughty photog Terry Richardson's Tumblr) is a triple threat.
Terry, I hope you posted it as a reminder to yourself. Only you know where that thing has been.

It could be either. Check it out online while it lasts.

We met at Byrne's Pub on St. Patrick's Day. You are a redhead that was wearing a white full length dress. I was in a white tshirt and black Utilikilt. We were both pretty drunk and hit it off immediately. You came back to my place with me around 6. I didn't have any condoms, but you didn't care. We had a great time before your friends called looking for you and we went back to the bar. You left shortly thereafter and we never traded numbers.
You gave me herpes. I hope you're proud of yourself.

The thing is, I have seriously considered trying to pitch a similar idea to clients, but they don't tend to like to intentionally break terms of use.

The war on loose women
Social marketing has been with us a long time. It just went by other names, like "propaganda".
Buzz Feed just posted a collection of Second World War posters warning soldiers about the dangers of venereal disease from prostitutes and "procurable women".
Note how the first batch basically vilify the women as a secret enemy, while the last two put more onus of responsibility on male self-control and honour:

VD is for Everybody
Ah, the Sexual Revolution!
Reader Bonnie sent me a link to this awesomely awkward 1969 PSA from the Ad Council, reminding all of the recently liberated flower children (and their parents, and librarians, and even their kid sisters, apparently) that they may have shared more than peace and love...
Dig the catchy jingle and pure innocence of a pre-AIDS sexual health PSA. Enjoy the love-in while it lasts, my groovy friends...
