To be honest, I don't think Europeans or Australians do realize how sensitive a subject blackface is in North America — perhaps for them, it's not much different than making fun of Germans by wearing Lederhosen and an alpine hat with a feather, or waddling around with a bowler hat and umbrella pretending to be a British upper-class twit.
