2014 was another year of women's body image issues

It's been an interesting year in advertising. Some brands are embracing social and technological change, while others hold on to old stereotypes and ideas.

Here are the Ethical Adman posts of 2014 that you read the most. They show two sides of the fashion industry; the obsessive shaping of women's bodies to meet unrealistic ideals, versus celebrating the diverse reality of being human:

Target took the sick "thigh gap" meme to new lows in Photoshop butchery last March. After being featured on Jezebel and Buzzfeed, target pulled this picture and apologized.

Now, THIS is a bold lingerie ad (403,948 views)

Elly Mayday's story was one of the good ones. The 25-year-old model is living with a rare form of ovarian cancer. But the physical effects of treatment haven't affected her status as the star model for Forever Yours Lingerie of Vancouver. And the campaign received some well-deserved kudos.

Happy New Year, and try to do the right thing in 2015.
