F'd Ad Fridays: Clorox ad stained by sexism

You know, this ad would have been amusing and entertaining if it had been done in the 1960s.

Today, it is still slickly written and acted, with lots of mayhem.

It also delivers the following messages:

1. Laundry is mom's job
2. Moms are no fun
3. Dads have no responsibilities at home
4. Boys will be boys
5. Men will be boys
6. Girls will be boys (until they grow up, become moms, do laundry and become no fun)
7. Clorox believes that this is the way it should be (and they have a history of telling us that)

You know what, Clorox? You stink.

My fellow admen, this is why they hate us (again)

According to Agency Spy, this was the goodbye gift to two summer interns at digital agency R/GA:

Good Bye Interns from Leif on Vimeo.

And here I thought Mad Men was historical fiction, and that we now worked in an enlightened industry in which women are respected colleagues and clients rather than sexual playthings and passive eye candy.

But apparently I was wrong. So in that case, sweetheart, stop your yapping and go fix me a stiff drink.

F'd Ad Fridays: Director's reel effs up good and proper

Stephen Reedy is a young Director of short horror spoofs and quirky ads who has also been working as a trailer editor in Hollywood, and is ready for his big break. So what does he do? He makes himself a video resume that makes fun of Hollywood cliches, uses cuss words, and basically self-deprecates all over the place.

BALLS + HEART: Director Stephen Reedy in 1 minute or your money back from Stephen Reedy+ZerofriendsFilms on Vimeo.

Will it work? Reedy says, “I use cuss words in my resume. It’s a 1-way ticket to being turned down by 99.9% of everyone I send it to. But all I need is that 0.01%, that one person of influence to appreciate the craziness and start a mutually beneficial relationship.”

F'd Ad Fridays: Somebody just got f'ired!

Seen flying over Cannes:

I suppose it could've been worse. Like spelling Grey with an "a"?

Oh well. Maybe you can use the money you save from firing everyone who signed this off to hire a proofreader who speaks English.

We're so vain...

You bet we think this ad is about us. But if I were a creative Big Man like Gerry Graf, David Droga, Tony Granger, Ian Reichenthal or Scott Vitrone, my ego would be well justified.

Copywriter Alec Brownstein pioneered new ground in flattering Creative Directors' egos by purchasing their names on Google Adwords for pennies per click. His pitch: ”Googling yourself is a lot of fun. Hiring me is fun too” with his contact link. Total cost: $6

And guess what? He nailed them performing the search engine version of self-love. Gerry Graf, David Droga, Ian Reichenthal and Scott Vitrone offered him interviews. The latter two hired him at Y&R New York.

The vanity campaign also won him a Clio.

Moral of the story: the most successful creatives have none :)
