"Bush is back in fashion" - Crude pun, beautiful illustration

Marc posted this interesting Romanian campaign on Osocio today. It's for Mai Mult Verde ("More Green"), and environmental group holding a fashion show to raise funds for tree planting.

I'll have to assume that comparing female pubic hair to shrubbery works in Romanian, too. It's a rather crude and childish pun, but I still find the illustration by Annabella Orosz enchanting.

The work is by G2.

2 Girls, 2 Hop Balls advertise insurance in Romanian

This bizarre ad (from 2010) is for Asirom, a Romanian Insurance company. I don't speak the language, but the context and Latinate nouns are easy enough to figure out. If you're into that kind of thing.

If you're still confused, Marketing Paradise explains (loosely translated from the French): This advertisement explains what to do in case of a (sexy) car crash if one (sexy) driver has no insurance. In this case, it is necessary to involve the (sexy) police.

F'd Ad Fridays: When in Romania...

Earlier this week, Marc posted an article on Osocio about a Romanian candy company's campaign to rid Google's search engine of prejudicial stereotypes about their country and their people.

In response to suggested searches like this, which result from disparaging Googles done mostly by other Europeans, the advertiser asked people to do positive searches instead.

Nice, eh? I thought so, anyway.

And then, also this week, I catch this Romanian tourism campaign by Lowe&Partners online:

"Visit Romania, get drunk, get laid and meet Dracula". Not really helpful, is it?

F'd Ad Fridays: Creepy bunny creeps you in the men's room

This series by Ogilvy Group in Bucharest, Romania, will ruin Bugs Bunny for you. Unless you want him to be like that, in which case... you're welcome?

F'd Ad Fridays: Wake up and scream... again

Is he dead? Is he naked? Is he about to attack her?

Is she dead? Is she naked? Why does it look like she's been run over?

You've got a lot of 'splainin to do, BBDO Romania...

Neo-nationalism... now in chocolate bar form

This fascinating case study from Romania provides insights into the love/hate relationship between Eastern Europe and American globalism.

Basically, a chocolate brand based on the country's identity challenged apathetic youth by faking a stars-and-stripes rebranding — complete with new packaging fake ads:

I'm not sure how authentic its claims of grassroots protest are, but the approach is interesting and the executions are funny. (Although stirring up that kind of angry patriotism always makes me a little uncomfortable.)

Call it a "sensitivity disability"

I get these anti-distracted-driving ads from Romania. And they're well art-directed. But I don't like them.

It's quite simple, to me: These ads are offensive to people with disabilities.

Okay, so blind people should not be driving. But amputees can, and do, drive without any problems.

The message that you're disabled from driving when you're texting is clear enough, but I just don't believe that a social marketing campaign to raise awareness and compassion for one issue should be inconsiderate towards another.

I wanted to get a local cultural opinion on this campaign, for balance, but the only person I know in the Romanian ad industry just had a baby (Felicitări, Roxana!) so she's busy.

The campaign is by Publicis Bucharest, for Bucharest City Police. Via Ads of the World.
